The All Progressives Congress, the party in power, has split the youth it oversees over who should become the minister of youth.
Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, has the backing of a group of APC youth leaders, but Dayo Isreal, the National Youth Leader of the party, has been shunned by the same group of young people.
In a letter dated August 21 and titled “Clarion call for a purposeful minister of youth that is fit for the job,” the party’s youth leaders—representing more than 30 states—snubbed Israel in favour of Seyi.
The youth leaders believe Seyi is deserving of being Nigeria’s Minister of Youth for “painstakingly strengthening the youth wing of the party.”
According to the young leaders, Seyi “travelled at odd hours to numerous states across the federation canvassing support for the success of the Tinubu-led administration” during the elections.
They further asserted that Seyi’s nomination would be advantageous because he recognises the value of a viable ministry of youths and will calm youth unrest across the states of the federation.
Days after Tinubu transferred Abubakar Momoh from the Youth Ministry to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, the youth leaders announced their preferred candidate for the role.
Remember how Momoh was reassigned after Nigerians complained that he wasn’t a youth.
