Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the interior minister, has reaffirmed his commitment to carrying out the interior ministry’s constitutional responsibility.
After taking office, Tunji-Ojo addressed the leaders of the organisations under the Ministry’s jurisdiction.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu swore in Tunji-Ojo and 45 additional ministers on Monday in Abuja.
The Minister urged for cooperation among the paramilitary service heads in the ministry at his first meeting with ministry personnel, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Babatunde Alo.
Alo said that the minister remarked, “I am here to work, but in working we must have a good environment,” as he urged them to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the law. The ministry’s work affects everyone, whether you are rich or poor.
“I lead from the front, not from the back. We shall make an effort and try our best to deliver leadership that is based on your backing.
“I’m here to bring about change and get things done, and I need your assistance to do that.
The minister stated that while he would give his all to see that the ministry met its objectives and expectations, he would not hesitate to hold any of the paramilitary commanders accountable if they did not carry out their responsibilities in a proper manner.
He claimed that the president would hold him accountable in the same way that he would hold the paramilitary leaders accountable for their various organisations.
He said, “I will never hold your subordinates responsible for anything; I will hold you accountable for anything that goes wrong. Just as Mr. President would hold me accountable for whatever occurs in the Ministry of Interior.
In her response, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Oluwatoyi Akinlade, expressed joy over the appointment of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and assured the minister of the support of all of its staff.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, the Controller General (CG) of the Federal Fire Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi were among those present at the meeting, according to Alo.
