The examination and evaluation of all federal roads will start in two weeks, according to the works minister, David Umahi.
Following the swearing-in ceremony for 45 ministers on Monday, he made this claim while appearing at a press conference at the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja.
According to him, bureaucratic procedures would become obsolete under his direction because no file will be anticipated to be left ignored for longer than two hours without valid justifications.
I’ll be working out tomorrow, he declared. Tomorrow, I’ll give you my address. I’ve said I’ll see the contractors. We will meet with the contractors after receiving briefings from the heads of departments because I am a field person rather than an office person. I’ll be checking out the Lokojo-Benin Road and the Lokoja-Abuja Road thanks to God giving us life, with some of you helping out in that area.
“I will start inspecting roads after this week, the top week, which is in two weeks. I won’t settle down until I’ve inspected all of your projects and the new ones we plan to do.
Therefore, in order to see things for ourselves, we shall explore the six geopolitical zones.
He also stressed that, given his history, he saw himself more as a person who was field-oriented than as an office-bound person.
He further stated that a team of specialists from the ministry would travel to each of the country’s six geopolitical regions to evaluate the state of the road network and develop strategies to improve Nigerians’ quality of life.
