Ex-Olympian Henry Amike claimed on Tuesday that Tobi Amusan’s recent struggles would help her win the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
In an interview in Lagos, he made this statement and urged Amusan to get past the controversy surrounding her suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
By a majority vote, the panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal determined that Amusan had not broken the anti-doping rule that prohibits three Whereabouts Failures during a 12-month period.
He claimed that the controversy surrounding Amusan’s suspension might inspire her to beat the record set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.
“Athletes respond to situations differently. Her recent struggles may even motivate her to set a fast time and beat her previous record.
“The latest drama has more of a psychological than a bodily impact. She will survive until her mind can grasp the idea that she merits being in Hungary.
Not all traumatic experiences have negative effects. She needs wonderful people who believe in her around her right now, so I hope she has the support she needs. That will go a long way, he said.
