The governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, stated on Monday that the present tuition rates for state-owned higher institutions will be reduced.
Sani pointed out that the negative evaluation followed the elimination of subsidies by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, which coincided with the present overall increase in living expenses.
On Monday, the governor made the declaration during a press conference at the Government House in Kaduna.
This was said in a statement given to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Mohammed Shehu.
The fees have reportedly been revised as follows under the new fees regime:
Kaduna State University: Current Fee: N150,000; 30% Discount – New Charge: N150,000. The current tuition at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic is N100,000. The reduction is 50%. N50,000 is the new fee. Gidan Waya College of Education’s current tuition is N75,000 – Decrease (%): 50% new charge: N37,500.
“Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences & Technology, Makarfi •HND Courses – Current Fee: N100,000 – Reduction (%): 30% -New Fee: N70.000 •ND Courses – Current Fee: N75,000 – Reduction (%): 30% – New Fee: N52,000.Kaduna State College of Nursing – Current Fee: N100,000 – Reduction (%): 30% – New Fee: N70,000.%”
It was also said that the evaluation was a part of the governor’s commitment to upholding the election-related pledges he made to the Kaduna people.
“When we took office on May 29, 2023, we swore an oath to the people of Kaduna State that we would lead an inclusive, people-centered administration that would leave no one or any area of Kaduna State behind.
The governor said, “I directed heads of tertiary institutions in conjunction with the Ministry of Education to obtain relevant information on the extant fees regime in state owned tertiary institutions in response to the public outcry over the current fees being charged by tertiary institutions in Kaduna State and its effect on school enrolment and retention.
The KDSG’s resolve to provide palliatives to mitigate the effects of the general rise in living expenses in the nation, particularly in light of the recent withdrawal of petrol subsidies in Nigeria, is aligned with this downward evaluation of the current fees regime.
The welfare of the populace continues to be this administration’s top concern, and the Kaduna State Government will keep taking all necessary steps to guarantee that every kid in Kaduna State has access to a free, high-quality education from elementary through secondary school.
