The All Progressives Congress (APC) branch in Abia State has proposed Mr. Obinna Atuonwu, the state’s organising secretary, to succeed Late F.N. Nwosu, who passed away while in office.
‘Recommendation Of Mr. Obinna Atuonwu As Abia State Nominee For The Post Of National Welfare Officer In Replacement Of Late Barrister F.N. Nwosu’ was the title of a letter dated August 9, 2023, addressed to APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and signed by the party’s state chairman and secretary, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu and Chief Chidi Avajah, respectively.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s former national chairman, received a letter suggesting Atuonwu as the successor to the late F.N.Nwosu from the Abia APC chapter on July 7.
Please refer to our earlier letter in this respect dated July 7 via which we nominated Mr. Obinna Atuonwu as replacement for Late Barrister F.N. Nwosu, the then National Welfare Officer who passed away in service, as stated in the letter from the Abia APC chapter to the party’s new National Chairman, Alhaji Ganduje.
This is in accordance with our wonderful party’s constitution’s rules. Strangely, despite the fact that nothing has been done, we have been aware of attempts to propose a replacement for the National Welfare Officer position outside of the party constitution.
Please take note Sir, the State Executive Committee is the only group with this authority under the party’s (the APC’s) constitution. Clearly, the Vice Chairman (Southeast) and Deputy Speaker have no participation in the nominating process.
According to Section 31.5 (I) of the party constitution, the State Executive Committee has the exclusive authority to propose a replacement to fill a vacancy. And the State Exco duly convened and proposed Mr. Obinna Atuonwu as the party’s state organising secretary.
“Mr. Obinna Atuonwu is a dedicated APC founding member. He not only had a degree in political science from the University of Lagos (from 38 years ago), but he was also a national ex-official of the ANPP after serving as state publicity secretary for many years. Therefore, Mr. Atuonwu has a long history of party leadership and dedication.
“He is a team player and will undoubtedly carry out the duties of his office honourably. We sincerely appreciate you and gratefully accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of our best wishes as we once again propose Mr. Atuonwu.
The party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Deputy National Organising Secretary, Zonal Secretary (South-East), Zonal Organising Secretary (South-East), and Zonal Youth Leader (South-East) all received copies of the letter.
